The Tribune Trust has awarded £3,000 to the City of Hull Sport and Community Group CIC to support the launch of their "First Round" boxing-inspired initiative aimed at empowering young people living on the Orchard Park estate. Chris Henson, the High Sheriff of Hull and East Yorkshire, presented the grant to the organization, which will use the funding to purchase essential equipment for the program. This new project aims to tackle youth anti-social behaviour and promote positive engagement through boxing and educational workshops. The "First Round" project targets children aged 9 to 12 in one of the city's most deprived areas, offering them a structured afterschool program. Participants will engage in boxing, alongside life skills workshops focused on building emotional resilience, confidence, and better decision-making. The project will also provide opportunities for peer mentoring and further involvement in the community. Mike Gibbons, Chairman of the City of Hull Sport and Community Group, emphasized the significance of the grant: "This funding is crucial to helping us deliver a program that will not only teach valuable skills but also provide a supportive, positive environment for young people to thrive." The sessions are designed to foster community pride, promote healthy lifestyles, and reduce anti-social behaviour, with long-term benefits for both the individuals and the wider Orchard Park community. Through this initiative, the City of Hull Sport and Community Group CIC hopes to make a lasting impact by empowering youth and guiding them toward a brighter future. This funding directly supports the Tribune Trust's mission to reduce crime and disorder and promote good citizenship within communities.
