Joint working with ONGO Communities in Scunthorpe
16/11/2018
. Westcliff is an area within North Lincolnshire which has high unemployment rates, poor physical & mental health and low aspirations amongst some of the community members. Due to these issues and many other reasons, in May 2018 ONGO opened The Arc in the centre of the estate. This is a multi-agency space delivering a wide range of services for all ages based on the needs and wants of the local community members.
ONGO Communities would like to build resilience, raise aspirations, increase training and employment opportunities for young people, whilst also providing fun and engaging activities to help reduce anti-social behaviour and crime on the estate.
The Tribune Trust are therefore pleased to be able to support ONGO Communities with one of their projects.
Through a partnership between Ongo, the Police and Safer Neighbourhoods they have started a project to engage with local youngsters on the Westcliff estate in Scunthorpe. The young people are requesting a late night youth club once per week running from 7pm-9pm within The Arc to provide a dedicated space for them to have fun, relax and be safe. The youth session will be specifically for the 14-19 age group. Activities will be planned in partnership with the young people to maximise the engagement opportunity and relationship building with them.
Youth Mentors will work at the sessions. This will enable them to have mentoring conversations around motivation, confidence building and behaviour.
Therefore through youth activities and mentoring conversations, they hope to provide a safe space with fun activities but also to challenge current behaviours and thoughts, in order for the young people to make positive lifestyle choices. Further activities such as employment support, training, drug & alcohol services as well as a whole host of other activities which run from the ARC will also be offered to the young people.
