Tribune Trust Donates £2,000 to Support Outdoor Gym in Wilberfoss
The Tribune Trust has awarded £2,000 to the Wilberfoss, Kexby and Newton Playing Fields Association to help fund a new outdoor green gym, providing local residents with free access to exercise and recreational facilities.
The charity, run entirely by volunteers, aims to offer children and adults in Wilberfoss and surrounding villages a safe and enjoyable environment for sport and physical activity. The planned outdoor gym will include several pieces of equipment suitable for youths aged 12 and over, as well as adults, allowing for a full-body workout in a community setting.
Vice Chairman Paul Gibney said the project will create a new space for physical activity and wellbeing, particularly for those unable to afford gym memberships or home exercise equipment. “Our facility will be open year-round and free to use, giving people of all ages the opportunity to stay active while enjoying the outdoors,” he said.
The new gym is expected to benefit approximately 500 members across multiple local groups and indirectly support around 1,000 households, as well as visitors to the playing fields. The project has already received strong community support, with positive responses through social media and local newsletters, and the Tribune Trust donation brings the initiative closer to completion.
The outdoor gym will complement the playing fields’ existing facilities, which host a wide range of clubs and activities, from football and tennis to running, fitness classes, and youth groups, further enhancing community engagement and wellbeing.
