St Michael's Youth Project, Hull

22/05/2019

The aim of St Michael's Youth Project is to help young people living in North Hull and Orchard Park to develop their physical, mental and spiritual well-being so that they can grow to maturity with their life chances improved. The Youth Project is a not for profit organisation which has been running a host of activities from the Centre for 11 years. Activities include sports, music, arts and crafts, cooking, swimming classes, residential outdoor activities, beach trips and off road cycling. They are also an accredited teaching centre linked to Hull University. They run ABC Youth Work courses for young people aged between 16 and 18 years of age.

A bike library operates from the Centre and they had 250 bike loans last year. They also run weekly bike maintenance courses where anyone can bring in their bike and have it repaired for free.

The Centre also take young people on guided rides. They organise 15 rides per year with 10 participants on each ride. The rides are geared towards participation in the 190 mile coast to coast route, which they organise every year. This is a five day expedition where participants ride on average 40 miles per day and stay in scout camps overnight.

The Tribune Trust has given St Michael's Youth Project funding to buy new trail bikes as the previous ones were 10 years old and becoming unfit for purpose.

The Tribune Trust is pleased to be able to support the Youth Project in engaging with young people and encouraging them to participate in the Centre’s active sporting and recreational activities and thereby diverting them from negative behaviours in the area.

Mrs Sue Stephenson, the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire, is shown presenting a cheque to Mathew Rogers the Outdoor Education Lead.
